Needing a new snack? Try an old school classic, ants on a log. A combination that would call for question but tastes amazing.
As a little kid, this was a classic after school snack that my parents used to make for me. It was also one of these first things I made in the kitchen to prove to my parents I was a big kid and could cook.
Ingredients:
4 ribs celery
4 Tbsp peanut butter or peanut butter alternatives, smooth or crunchy
⅛ cup raisins
Directions:
Wash and clean the celery well. Remove any brown spots or pieces that have started to go bad. Make to not discard of the ribs the of the celery (the main middle part is called the ribs). Pat dry the celery so that the rest of the ingredients do not slide out.
Depending on the size of the celery chop that celery in half or thirds depending on how big the stalk is.
For each cut rib of celery spread ½ Tbsp of peanut butter or up to curved edges that the celery naturally has.
Top with a few raisins. This is to create the effect of ants sitting on a log.
Notes:
Instead of cutting the stalk first, you could fill the stalk with 1 Tbsp of peanut butter first and then cut it.
Crunchy peanut butter will add an added crunch to the snack but smooth will give it a more realistic look.
When serving you could eat it right away or chill in the fridge if you want to make this earlier in the day and eat it after.
Ask an adult for help with:
Cleaning the celery
Slicing the celery into pieces
Serves: 4-8 people depending on stalk size
